Hummingbird Creative Group Vice President, Dan Gregory, had the honor of leading a workshop about Target Markets, while attending the News & Observer’s, “Shop Talk: Money, Marketing & Media Bootcamp” Friday, March 27th 2015 at NC State’s Hunt Library. The half-day conference was for small-business owners who were looking to boost the success of their businesses.
The keynote speaker was Terrence Holt, President of Holt Brothers Construction, and former NFL and North Carolina State University football player. He shared his wisdom as an entrepreneur and philanthropist. His message of planning, relationship building and partnering resonated with Dan, and also dovetailed nicely into Dan’s workshop on knowing your target market.
Dan’s workshop was well attended, with representatives from legal firms, senior care companies, media production companies, retail stores and restaurants. In the context of these industries, Dan discussed “Ideal Customers” in terms of their demographic, psychographic and behavioral characteristics. He also talked about the “how” in identifying your ideal customer through examining the existing customer base, competitors’ customers, vertical markets and niche markets. To tie all together he discussed a final step of building a “customer persona” to help focus messaging regardless of the delivery platform with laser focus.
Before departing for the day, Dan was able to catch the panel discussion about building effective relationships with the media. Dan thought Mike Williams was very articulate about identifying the right channel within the targeted media organization, and building a relationship specifically with them.
“I would like to say a special thank you to Virginia Bridges of the News & Observer”, said Dan Gregory. “For inviting me to participate in this awesome event. I look forward to speaking in more events for them in the future.”
